I completed my Bachelor of Science Degree (Honours) at the University of Queensland, majoring in microbiology and biochemistry. It was during my honours year that I first became acquainted with bioinformatics.
I have worked as a bioinformatician at both CSIRO and at the University of Queensland (UQ). I was part of the Livestock Genomics Team while at CSIRO and provided general bioinformatics support to the team. During this time I was involved with annotating transfer RNAs (tRNAs) in cow as part of the Bovine Genome Consortium. Soon after I began working at UQ and joined the GUDMAP team where I worked partly as a system administrator and as a LIMS developer/maintainer.
I use Perl as my chainsaw to most of my tasks and know a little bit of MySQL, PHP, XHTML/HTML and web mastering.
I am currently at the RIKEN Omics Science Center in Yokohama, Japan and diving deep into the world of transcriptomics.
